St. Martin is one of the most tranquil spots in the world. Miles of secluded sandy
beaches surround the island. St. Martin has the distinction of being the Earth's
smallest land mass to be divided between two governments. The northern pasrt is
French, and the southern is Dutch. For about 350 years, these two governments have
coexisted relatively peacefully.
Philipsburg is the Dutch capital of St. Martin. It is known for its beautiful colonial
architecture. St Martin is well-known for its vibrant night-life. From sunset on into
the night, the music of steel drum bands fill the cafes and night clubs. There is an annual
two week carnival, which includes feasting, dancing, and parades.
