Fine Tuning to Suit Individual Learning Style

At any time, the user may click on the PREFERENCES button to make additional adjustments to the presentation. From this dialog box, use the mouse to select or unselect sound, Button Tips or Key Notes. In addition, the user can set the DELAY value which dictates the rate of the presentation.

Button Tips

To better acquaint new users to the TI-89 buttons, the TI-89 Tutor provides Button Tips at the user’s request. To use this feature, click on the PREFERENCES button and make sure that Button Tips has been selected.

Note: By default, the Button Tips feature is turned off. Although this feature is convenient when its needed, it will slow down the calculator’s response time, which may be a distraction to new users.

Sound Controls

Considering that educational tutorials are often used in libraries or other academic environments, sound may be undesirable. Click on the PREFERENCES
button to turn sound on or off at any time. This setting will not affect the tutorial’s performance either way.

Adjusting the Presentation Speed

Since everyone learns at a different pace, the TI-89 Tutor allows users to adjust the rate of presentation in both Walk Through and Show Me modes. Click on the PREFERENCES button and use your mouse to adjust the DELAY value (in seconds). The higher the value, the slower the tutorial moves.

Key Notes

By default, the TI-89 Tutor uses Key Notes to provide additional information about key combinations, menus, and tips that are vital to the mastery of the TI-89 and the objectives of the example. If users prefer to exclude this resource, they can click on the PREFERENCES button to turn Key Notes off (or back on).
