Solving an Equation

 

Let's solve the equation (8x - 2)(3x + 4) = (4x + 3)(6x - 1).  We'll use a graphical method.

 

Go to the <Y=> window and put in Y1 = (8x - 2)(3x + 4) and Y2 = (4x + 3)(6x - 1).

 

Graph the function starting off with the standard window (go to <ZOOM> and choose "ZStandard."

 

This picture is not very helpful so we will change our window some.  Use the settings shown to the right.

 

Press <GRAPH>.

 

The two graphs seem to cross somewhere in the first quadrant.  We'll resize the window again.  Use the settings to the right.
